Pepper Paste Pasta

Ingredients

PASTA

  • 1 pack of fusili pasta

SAUCE

  • 3 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp pepper paste
  • 1 teaspoon basil flakes
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

TOPPING optional

  • 4-5 whole kalamata or green olives
  • Fresh basil
  • Red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Heat a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add olive oil, garlic, pepper paste and tomato. Sauté for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  2. Add all the spices to the sauce and stir to combine.
  3. Bring the sauce to a simmer. Continue cooking for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Cook pasta according to package instructions at this time. Then drain and set aside.
  5. Sample pasta sauce and adjust seasonings as needed.
  6. Add pasta to the sauce and toss to coat.
  7. Serve with optional toppings.
