Mom's Lentil Soup

This traditional Turkish lentil soup is a winter classic.

Ingredients
- 1 cup red lentil
- 1 tablespoon basmati rice
- 6 cups of water
- 1 potato
- 1 onion
- 1 lemon
- 1 carrot
- 50 g butter or 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp ground cummin
- 1 tbsp crushed red pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon blackpepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
Directions
- Chop the vegetables; potato, onion and carrot. For a creamy and even texture, use blender.
- Put chopped vegetables, lentils, basmati rice and water in a large pot. Bring to boil and stir occasionaly.
- Add oil.
- Squeeze the lemon in and add the spices.
- Stir and serve!
